Can the solar frame be made of plastic steel instead of aluminum alloy?

Some people say that since plastic steel can be used instead of aluminum alloy for doors and windows, why can't the solar frame be made of plastic steel profiles? Today we will discuss the difference between plastic steel and aluminum alloy.


1. The main component of aluminum alloy is aluminum, while the main component of plastic steel is PVC. The strength of aluminum alloy is much higher than that of PVC, and its wind pressure resistance is two grades higher than that of plastic steel. The solar frame is completely exposed to the outside, and there is no shield around it, so aluminum alloy is more suitable.


2. Let's talk about their density. Although the main component of plastic steel is pvc, the density is high, and there is a steel lining in the middle, so the plastic steel frame of the same size is much heavier than the aluminum alloy frame, which will increase a lot of transportation costs. And now the photovoltaic modules are getting bigger and bigger, if the frame is heavier, it will greatly increase the difficulty of installation.


3. It is difficult to assemble the plastic-steel frame. Due to the good deformation performance of the aluminum alloy, the corner code can be installed and then riveted and connected. This invisible connection method is efficient and beautiful. If it is made of plastic steel, there is no way to connect it with a corner code, but it can only be connected by screws or welding. The screw connection is neither beautiful nor efficient, and it will be more difficult to weld.


4. The expansion coefficient of plastic is 3 times that of aluminum alloy, and it is easy to expand when heated. Solar panels are usually installed in places with sufficient sunshine and relatively long sunshine time. Plastic steel is very easy to deform outdoors all year round, especially in summer when it is exposed to sunlight, resulting in damage to components. The aluminum alloy is very high temperature resistant, not easy to deform, and will not become brittle, and its service life is more than 25 years outdoors.


5. Aluminum alloy is environmentally friendly, and the solar frame of aluminum alloy can be fully recycled, because even its corner code is made of aluminum alloy of the same material. Plastic steel cannot be recycled, which is not very environmentally friendly.


6. The weather resistance and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy are better than those of plastic. The surface of the aluminum alloy frame is anodized, which can ensure that it will not corrode for 25 years and will not change color for more than 15 years. The surface of the plastic-steel frame will become rough when it is weathered outdoors. The thickness of the weathered layer can reach 0.3-0.4mm in a few years, and the polyallyl chloride below will stop decomposing. The chains can break, powdering the surface of the material, affecting the mechanical properties of the frame.


Therefore, from all aspects, plastic-steel profiles are not suitable for solar frames.
